| Houston is a wide city with a giant and growing international community. The urban area is home to an approximate 1.1 million residents who were born outside the US, with nearly two-thirds of the area's foreign-born population from south of the United States-Mexico border. In addition, more than one in 5 foreign-born residents are from the Far East. The town is home to the nation's third largest concentration of consular offices, representing 86 states. The Theater District is a 17-block area in the middle of downtown Houston that is home to the Bayou Place entertainment complicated, restaurants, movies, plazas, and parks. The Houston Verizon Wireless Theater stages live concerts, stage plays, and stand-up comedy ; and the Angelika Film Center presents art, foreign and independent films. According to the NY Times, folk in Houston spend more per capita on restaurants than residents of any other town ; with so many selections, this info comes as barely a surprise. Beneath all of Houston's glass and glitter is a cafe scene that's's full of soul and flavour. Though this great city is forever engaged in a war with Dallas as to who has the best selection of restaurants in Texas, it's widely concluded that Houston is far richer in the area of ethnic cuisine than giant D. From roof restaurants serving unparalleled seafood preparations to Italian bistros making Napoli proud, even the most discerning palate can find wonderful reproductions of cuisine from all over the planet. Additionally, in the convention of the great Texan love for barbecue, Houston has enough restaurants serving up delicious, tasty steaks to send the state's cow population into a panic. There are plenty of places to go for Houston singles if you know what to look for. For example: Grumps carp the Corda brothers' extraterrestrial rain-forest fantasia is overrated, but it's's difficult to assert against Chicago wonderboy Jordan Mozer's cutting-edge decor, or -- when the largely reliable kitchen is on -- the creative Pan-American menu. Attracting quail taquitos, lamb meatballs, potato-crusted squid, shrimp over corn fettuccine and curvy coconut ice cream show Amricas at its finest, which is awfully fine indeed. I read some stuff on places at Dining In Houston as well. First, there's the setting. Over the top Chinese rococo ambiance featuring brass castings on the walls, carved stone guards and serenely sitting Buddhas greet visitors to Caf Le Jadeite. After you soak in the dcor, it's on the to the smoothly prepared menu of mostly Hunan Chinese fare. Look for standards like orange meat as well as more creative dishes like stuffed avocado prawn, grilled oysters and pork with bamboo shoots. | |
